These two people are worlds apart and do not know each other so I can't dismiss this as mere coincidence.
And another thing, keep in mind this information is of a verbal nature only and until I can get some hard evidence, is totally unsubstantiated. So please no ridiculing - yes we know its only another "what I've heard" post, I've just told you it is.
As of January 2 or 3, the D200 is now being produced with a 10.8 MP sensor, and a different board to that which was fitted in initial production runs of the D200. What "board" means I have no bloody idea. The reason for these changes is not clear, both contacts give different reasons. But they both said the decision for the changes and the changes themselves have meant no shipments have taken place for "some time".
Expect no announcement. However, you will likely see evidence of it on the Nikon site where you will see a discreet specs change from 10.2 MP to 10.8 MP once these "revised" D200 units start shipping.
I don't think this takes anything away from existing D200 units. But if you haven't yet ordered your D200 perhaps you are not necessarily missing out, who knows.
Now before I get blasted, remember I am only conveying what I consider to be reliable information and the fact that it has come from two very different sources makes it a little difficult for me to ignore.
Perhaps this may be old news to some, I don't know but its highly interesting information nonetheless and if anyone out there has more details then perhaps they can add something.
